Hearing a Sound when the caps key is on...
Becaue I have a tendency to type very fast, I often hit the caps key by mistake. I have been trying to set up my settings so a sound is heard when I hit the caps key. I have followed these instructions:
>Control Panel and locate the Ease of Access Center. Under "Explore all settings", click on "Make the keyboard easier to use".
About mid-way down the screen, where you see "Make it easier to type", there is a check box labeled "Turn on toggle keys". When you check that and click Apply, you will then hear an audible tone when you press CAPS LOCK, NUM LOCK, or SCROLL LOCK.<
This does not seem to be working for me. What am I missing?

Are your sounds turned on and loud enough to hear a very brief ding? Go back to Ease of access, KB and check the box again and Apply then test it to hear how soft the sound is. You would be better off disabling the caps lock key. Google Disable caps lock for more. Look in Control Panel, Keyboard, Key Settings to see if your version of windows has the ability to disable it . Intellitype software from MS has the ability to disable or change keys and there are other utilities that can do the same thing..

All sounds appear to be turned on. All drivers are updated-sound, etc. The OS is Windows 7-64 bit. I was able to turn on the toggle keys on a Vista machine and an XP machine without any problems. This simply does not work. (new xps 8100 Dell). I will try the entire procedure again and get back to you.

The Ease of Access center seems to have an additional problem. The "always read this section aloud" is also not working. I did a google search and others seem to have this same problem. I really would like to find a solution for tuning on the toggle settings. I guess I just like things to work as expected. I have repeatedly tried to set these settings with no success.

Why is the insert/edit link greyed out? The person in the above link appears to have a similar problem to mine. I am still looking for aN answer to get those toggle keys to make a sound. I too have a 64 -bit os-Windows 7.

The generic driver works, but not the download from the Dell Downloads. It appears as if this download for the Realtek driver may have a bug.

I have been doing some checking/experimenting with the Realtek Driver. The Realtek Driver that came installed on this computer and the Realtek Driver from the Dell Downloads must have a bug. Using either will not permit the toggle keys or narrators to work. However when I went to the Realtek site and downloaded and installed the driver, the toggle keys and narrator worked. Also in my above post the generic driver form microsoft works.
