How should I go about upgrading to XP?
I have a Dimension XPS T700r w. Win98SE & for about 2 months now I have been experiencing LOTS of BSODs & lock-ups while browsing. Where my system used to BSOD or lock-up 1-2 times every 3-4 months it's now doing it every day several times a day. VirusScan, Adaware, Housecall, Symantec, PestPatrol, & Panda all say I'm free of viri, worms, trojans, malware, etc, etc.
I've also tried the IE repair tool & uninstalled & reinstalled IE several times to no avail. The only thing different on the system was the last two upgrades/updates to ZAPro. The ZAPro update/upgrade to 4.5.538.000 seemed ok it was the one before that seemed to mark the start of my problem. I've also uninstalled & reinstalled ZAPro (went thru the registry to make sure the uninstall was complete before reinstalling) but I'm still having the problem.
My questions are:
1. If I decide to go as far as to fdisk, reformat & reinstall windows should I step up to XP or reinstall 98?
2. Should I reinstall win 98 then upgrade to xp or just get the full version of XP.
3. Or...should I just lob a grenade into my computer room & start over?
At this point I'm leaning heavily toward the grenade fix myself.

Your system will support XP. This information may be helpful.

Thanks Denny,
"Users can perform a clean installation of Windows XP using a Windows XP Upgrade CD, which means that spending the extra $100 for a full system is not necessary." - So this means the XP Upgrade disk looks a few certain files from Win98 so the upgrade will run? I knew the Win95 setup only looked for WIN.COM & WINVER.EXE & wondered about 98 & XP.

Would you recommend XP home or Pro edition?

XP Professional offers features which are missing in Home (see this) but they might not justify the difference in cost. XP Pro offers a few more tools for managing the operating system which are handy but not vital.
