Inspiron 1420 factory restore

Hello everyone,

A member of the extended family has a 1420 that's been acting up. I ran the system recovery and restored it to factory. This means it does not have SP1. Winodws Update shows SP1 is available, but if I tell it to install it goes through the motions and then shows Successful without actually installing the service pack. Reboot and it's it available in WU again ... Any thoughts? I have run Microsoft Fix-It which says it fixed 2 WU issues, but no change.

Hi  djsnooks,

Please let me know the operating system you are trying to upgrade (Vista or 7).

If you are trying to upgrade Windows 7 SP1, please check the Microsoft article below to make sure you have performed the steps properly.
