Legality of installing XP-Pro (OEM) on dual boot
Hi all,
I have a legal (OEM) copy of XP-Pro SP1 which I have installed but not yet activated (7 days left). I have just added a second HD and want to install this OS on one partition of that HD (and still leave it on the older HD). This is the SAME machine - obviously, only one copy can be run at any time.
Two questions:
1. If I activate the software on my old HD, will I still be able to install it on the new one? Will I have to activate it there too or will it quit running after 30 days?
2. I also have an old laptop that I use for a very rare business trip. Can I install it there too? I'm the only computer user in my house.
I guess I have a third question... Will the software really stop operating if I don't activate?
I work for a software company and truly believe in software legality - but I don't want to get "stiffed" by Microsoft. So I'm hoping I can get the real scoop here.

1. If I activate the software on my old HD, will I still be able to install it on the new one? Will I have to activate it there too or will it quit running after 30 days? That should present no problem. The OS is still installed on the single computer for which it is licensed.
2. I also have an old laptop that I use for a very rare business trip. Can I install it there too? I'm the only computer user in my house. No.
I guess I have a third question... Will the software really stop operating if I don't activate? Yes.

It wasn't a Dell copy of XP --- my Dell is the "old laptop" I referenced in my original query.
Thanks, both, for your answer. Glad I'm good-to-go with the two HDs in my desktop unit.
