McAfee 90 day trial expired. How do I install CD-ROM version 7.0?

My McAfee 90 day trial is up.  I'm not doing the online update at around $120.  I got the entire McAfee  internet security suite 2005 version 7.0  from a warehouse club for around $40.

I have a Dell Dimension 8400 with Windows XP Media Center (with SP2), 1G RAM, 160 HD.

Are there any scheduled tasks I need to worry about deleting prior to uninstallation?  I deleted the parental control section of the McAfee.   I have the McAfee virus scan set to scan every week.  It won't let me not have some way of scheduling that task.

Do I uninstall each of the components from the Start|Control Panel|Add or Remove Programs and then select the three McAfee programs:  McAfee Personal Firewall Plus, McAfee Privacy Service, McAfee Virus Scan, then restart?

Then, do I go back and do the McAfee Security Center separately and then restart?

I'm hoping I can then put the full version of the McAfee Security Suite into the CD-ROM drive and install that?

You should uninstall all McAfee components, then restart and install your new software.

This doesn't work though, Add/Remove only allows you to unistall the firewall and antivirus software. The whole dell/mcafee security suite is still on the computer though, and it pops up every time I startup and asks me to verify my account. I also bought the Mcafee 7.0 retail version for MUCH less than is offered from that site and would like to completely remove the dell installed version. How do I go about removing EVERY Mcafee object on my hard drive before I install?

Hi,

I upgraded to the McAfee 7.0 last weekend.  It was a pain.  First, I uninstalled each McAfee component in order as described at the McAfee website.  I restarted and restarted as requested.  Then I proceeded to load the new McAfee suite.  One thing to note, I forced my cable modem to go offline and turned off the Windows firewall to load the McAfee firewall/security software suite.  I read that on an internet forum.  It may have been at McAfee.  I turned on the Windows firewall after the McAfee was loaded.

"EASY" I thought as my nightmare began.  One thing is the new McAfee 7.0 forced me to use the e-mail address that I had signed up for the 90 day free trial.  That was my mistake for allowing that to happen.  It appeared on the screen in a whisp and boom, it was gone.......onto the internet and forever into the McAfee database as the same "account".  McAfee 7.0 on my computer refused to let me log in either.

How'd I fix it?  I logged into McAfee a day or two later and went to the McAfee website where there is a "My Account" tab at the top.  I clicked a few things there, and somehow, the database updated itself from the trial version to the version I now have, the McAfee Suite 7.0.  The McAfee 7.0 radio button was the one selected at the McAfee website.  That was it!

To note:  there were multiple restarts after the new McAfee 7.0 software was loaded.  I'm guessing that McAfee was "updating" itself from the website.  I would log onto the internet as usual and get a restart request with the McAfee box coming up.  This happened two, three or four times after I loaded the new McAfee 7.0 Suite.  (BTW, I loaded the entire suite of firewall, spam, privacy, and antivirus)

It took a day or two after that to clear up the problems.  But now, I'm faced with having to "log on" to my account (either as "Administrator" or my regular userid as I share the computer) in order to get the privacy service to work.  The jury is still out if I like that or not.  It did stop some adult sites (I have the ratings set really low or high.....depending on your take.  It's really restrictive to content.)

We're thinking of purchasing another computer.  I can tell you, I will NOT have ANY 90 day software loaded on it.  It took me several hours of hugging the computer to get the mess cleared up.  I thought this was all supposed to be getting easier.
