McAfee Security Center
Hello everyone. I've tried literally EVERYTHING possible to solve this problem through McAfee "support" but nothing worked. My Dell is 4 months old (running on Windows XP) and got McAfee through my being a Comcast customer. McAfee said that it needed to be verified a lot and never worked properly so I wanted to just get rid of it. Now it went haywire, and whenever I start up my computer, these are the error messages that come up. They all come up at once:
-"Some components of ActiveShield are either missing or might not have been installed properly."
-"Some McAfee SecurityCenter components might not have been installed or launched properly. Restart your computer to fix this. If this message appears again after restart please reinstall McAfee SecurityCenter."
-"An application component is missing. Please reinstall McAfee Privacy Service. Error Code (7.1.015)"
Now, I have not touched ANYTHING and before a couple days ago everything was fine (besides McAfee just not working properly anyway...). When I try to uninstall it through Add/Remove Programs, I get this message:
"Installation could not continue because some components (c:\progra~1\mcafee.com\agent\uninst\mpfrem.ui) are missing."
I just want McAfee OFF my computer and out of my life forever. This is not the first time I've had problems with McAfee, because my mom and her computer had problems like this. Please, if anyone can help I would be so grateful.

McAfee has uninstall kits availabled here -> http://forums.mcafeehelp.com/viewtopic.php?t=71943
Note its not for Version 11 or any beta versions.
The kit can be download under a section called "Manual Uninstall of VirusScan" when you go the "McAfee VirusScan" link.

I totally agree that Avast and zone alarm free version are superior. I have been using both for years and would never change. The Dell I just bought had McAfee automatically loading on start up and virtually forcing the uninformed to use it.
Because Mcafee forces its system to "run" even after I had turned off all their programs (verified by its own information) it was impossible to uninstall using add remove programs because it was "running".
I think it is totally unfair of Dell, so they make a buck or two from McAfee, that this mess from McAfee automatically starts as soon as the Dell is turned on forcing use of it.
I had to do a PC restore then open the computer in the SAFE mode BEFORE clicking on Mcafee (which it was trying to force me to do by providing no method to close the program) so I could uninstall McAfee.
Then I Searched for Mcafee in the search for files and folders and removed everything from the computer with the word McAfee.
Now the windows security still thinks Mcafee is in the computer.
Anyway totally wrong of Dell to force this on their customers using the methods it uses. I bet there is something illegal about it similar to the issues Microsoft had with IE and now the Euro problems.

I finally figured out how to get McAfee off. I had to actually download and install and use Mozilla Firefox because something was wrong with my Internet Explorer. Apparently something wasn't installed in Explorer which messed up my downloading a new version of McAfee in order to delete it. Talk about a hassle!
I suggest to anyone to download the full version of McAfee again, so it writes over the old McAfee files (whether they are corrupted or not) and then delete it completely. And never get it again.
