Media Center does not display .jpg files

My brand new Dimension E520 XP Media Center edition computer does not display .jpg files.  I'm talking about the Media Center program itself.  Any other program works fine.  The Windows picture and fax viewer works fine.  My camera software works fine.  But NOT Media Center!!  When I browse to a folder containing .jpg files, it does not recoginize anything.  It says "No pictures were found".  It DOES HOWEVER recognize .jpeg files, but not .jpg files.  Dell technical support wants me to reinstall the entire operating system.  I'd rather not do that since I have a ton of user files on the system already.  Does anyone have any idea on what I might try to get this fixed?

You might try using Explore to navigate to one of the .jpg files, right click on it, go to Properties and select a program from the list to open it with.  Be sure and check the "Always use this program to open these files" box.

Edit:  Or see Rick's answer, who typed a reply faster than I did. :smileyhappy:

Dell Support is incompetent.  Open Windows Explorer.  Click on Tools, Folder Options, File Types and change jpg to Media Center.

Yeah, I've already tried those things.  No help.  It's funny, after I set Media Center as the default program, when I go to Explorer and double-click a picture file, it just runs Media Center.  It doesn't attempt to open the file.  By the way, the default program for .jpg & .jpeg is the Corel Photo Album 6 software which shipped as a trial version.  Don't think that has anything to do with the problem.  I just want the thing to work right.  Any other ideas are most welcome!  Thanks!!

Saying you don't think it has anything implies you didn't change them.  You can easily change them back.

What I meant was I don't think the default program being the Corel program has anything to do with the problem.  I did in fact change the default file type to Media Center.  So now, when I select a file from Explorer, it does in fact run the Media Center program, but Media Center still does not recognize the jpg files.  It simply shows the main menu.  Then when I browse to the folder, it does not recognize any of the jpg files.

It is odd that in the 'type' column in Explorer still says Photo Album 6 as the file type.  This does not change no matter what program I associate with the jpg file type.  But this fact does not affect the proper program from running.

So, if I change the file type to launch Windows & Fax viewer, selecting the file from Explorer will in fact run Windows & Fax viewer.  But the 'type' column in Explorer still says Photo Album 6.  Same thing happens if I change the file type to launch my camera software.  The program runs fine and opens the file no problem.  Media Center still doesn't recognize the jpg files.
