Media Player Error mesage 0xC00D1199: Cannot play the file

My Dell computer will no longer play any type of media file. I keep getting the following error message.

0xC00D1199: Cannot play the file

I have reinstalled the player three times, made sure all the media types were checked, made the player my default player, and checked for updates. I updated to player 10 with negative results, then reverted back to player 9. Still get the same error message.

The same exact files download and play on my Dell laptop just fine, so it just has to be some kind of setting that is not right.

This person had the same issue, and found a solution.

"I solved my own problem. Apparently the read scripts setting in windows media player  had become unchecked and as such the program wouldn't read codecs. "
