Microsoft Office Pro 2010 | Icons not showing

I have Microsoft Office 2010. One day my icons for all Office programs are not showing and are replaced by the generic program icon. I reinstalled Office, no fix. Its like the program lost the path to where the icon is located. How can i fix this.

Thanks!

Hi,

You reinstalled the program; are you able to open the program from the Start menu?
If yes, then the icons may have been corrupted. You can create the shortcut for the program at the desktop.
Note: Delete the previous shortcut icons from the desktop (deleting the icons does not delete the program)

  1. Click Start -> click on all programs, scroll down locate Microsoft office.
  2. Right-click the program you want to create the shortcut for.
  3. Click send to ->Desktop (create Shortcut).
  4. Alternately you can drag the program to create a shortcut.

Hi,

Thank you so much for providing the details, I appreciate it. Please try the steps mentioned below:

1. Click on the link http://support.microsoft.com/mats/system_maintenance_for_windows/ and click on Run now.
2. Download and save the file and run it.
3. Restart the computer and check.

If the above step does not work, then try:

1. Click the Start button and click on “Computer” to open a Windows Explorer window.
2. Click on “Organize” from the Tool bar and choose “Folder and search options” to open the Folder Options window.

3. Click on the “View” tab.
4. Click on the selection for “Show hidden files, folders or drives” and then click on “OK”.
5. From the windows explorer window, navigate to the “C:\Users\username\AppData\Local” folder where “username” represents the username of the person currently logged into the computer.

6. Find the “IconCache.db” file and delete it.

7. Close the window and restart the computer and windows will automatically rebuild the icon cache on reboot.

If the above step does not work then create a new user account.

Steps to create a new user account are as follows:

1. Click on Start -> Control Panel and under User Accounts and Family Safety click on ‘Add or remove user accounts’

2. Now click on ‘Create a new account’

3. Type in the name of the user and select the type of account as ‘Standard user’ or ‘Administrator’.

4. Click on ‘Create Account’.
5. Close all windows and restart the computer.
