Must reinstall WinXP but cant disable virus scan! No Win. screen-Dell in HYBERNATION/FROZEN!
PLEASE HELP ME!!! I had my Dell Dimensions 8200 worked on recently. The tech. couldn't find MY Windows XP disk and so used one of his own. Nothing but problems, glitches and a slow collaps. Adware problems started last night and this morning the pointer moved, but screen froze. Had to Hard shutdown. Now computer is in Hybernation. Need to reinstall MY Windows XP but can't get the Windows screen up or icons and sooo CAN"T DISABLE VIRUS SCAN OR MSN MESSANGER TO DOWNLOAD WINDOWS!!! I believe to reinstall is my only option. (AVG Virus Scan had a System Read error red flaged.) Can I reinstall without disabling virus scan, etc? Do I have any other options. Need the computer ASAP. PLEASE...Any advise? Any will help. You don't need the Windows screen with icons. You should not boot into Windows. See the reinstallation procedures here.

When you boot from the CD nothing in Windows starts (including antivirus).

Thank you so much Denny. The info you offered is outstanding and it WILL be used...BUT...Don't I have to disable the Virus scan before I'm able to reinstall? I get a black screen with the Start tab and bar on the bottom. One click on anything and the computer freezes. Not the mouse(pointer) but the screen itself. How do I get my computer out of "Hybernation mode" to do this? Or does it even need to be done at all? I will look again at the info and fabulous links you provided to see if I missed something.
