No Win8 Re-install DVD's? New Inspiron Notebook
No Win8 Re-install DVD's? I've just bought a new Dell computer (Inspiron 15RV-953BLK) Dell Support reads that it is Model: Inspiron 15 3521, for my daughter which comes with Windows 8. I've Purchased a lot of Dell Computers over the years, however, there is no Windows 8 & the driver re-installation DVD's. Every computer I've ever bought has come with the software disks for re-instalation if needed or upgraded the Hard drive (I tend to think the software is the valuable bit - the hardware is almost give away). I've had to reinstall windows multiple times on several other PCs I've owned over the years. Not having the disks feels pretty vulnerable. I know there is the thing about Restore Partitions etc - but what do I do if the hard disk dies and I have to replace it - or just want a larger Hard drive and the restore partition is gone? I must have missed something - can you help? How do I get hold of the re-instalation DVD's Windows 8 program & drivers, so I can get my laptop back if and when it dies? Also I am going to purchase several more Laptops of the same which one set of reinstalation Window's 8 & the drivers DVD's would work for all my Laptops. Dell, as well as nearly every major OEM, have all but discontinued the practice of including OS discs with the computer - at Microsoft's request.
If you are in the US, use this form to request media while still under warranty:
https://www.dell.com/support/diagnostics/us/en/19/nondiagnostichome?c=us&l=en&s=dhs
If you are not in the US, then you will need to contact Support in your region.
One DVD will work for all your systems. It is usually an option during your order to include a disc, ranging between $3-16. Drivers can (and should) be obtained from Dell's Support or FTP sites instead of using the drivers disc.

You are meant to use Dell Backup and Recovery to make a bootable USB but these aren't totally reliable and I recommend calling Dell and requesting media as soon as possible while you are under warranty.
