Norton AntiVirus - Can't download e-mail with "check incoming and outgoing messages" selected

Hi,

I'm running Win XP on a fairly new dell. E-mail tool is Outlook. All of a sudden I can't send and receive e-mail. MY ISP (Time Warner cable) says its Norton. As "proof" we disabled Norton E-mail scanning and e-mail will go in and out? Any suggestions?

thanks

Office's Outlook or Outlook Express? These are 2 diff programs, despite the similar name. Try disabling just the Outgoing mail Scan in Norton Virus Scan Options and see if that helps. Check the acct settings to make sure Norton has not changed them.

Hi:

There is no real need to enable any anti-virus' email scanner (in or out);  it can cause problems
as you have seen. It is a redundant layer of protection: your resident NAV is all you need. Even
Symantec admits this.

You are quite safe to leave email scanning permanently disabled.

Mine just stopped working after I installed the new zone alarm pro. I reverted back to the previous zone alarm and all is now well.
