Restore to Factory Settings, unable to go into advanced boot options

Hi all,

I have a problem with my computer and I want to go back to Factory Settings.  I have a Dimension E520 with Windows Vista Home Premium.  When I bought the computer I didn't receive any CDs/DVDs, but only a recovery drive D:\ .   I am attempting to follow the intructions to us PC Restore (http://support.dell.com/support/topics/global.aspx/support/dsn/en/document?journalid=5E77A9AD445CB012E040AE0AB5E12608&docid=336966).  The problem that I am having is F8 doesn't do anything.  I have tried every combination of F keys I could think of.  How am I able to get to the Advanced boot options so that I can restore my computer.  Thanks for the help.

I don't think you can, if F8 doesn't work :emotion-6:

Does it work at any other time?

Anyways... unless they have different rules for the likes of the Dimension E520, you should have received an OS disc!?

All Dell systems have a 'Restore' partition - so there's nothing unusual in that.  But (to my knowledge) Dell should also have supplied an OS disc (and others) with the system?

Since you didn't receive any, you should request backup discs :emotion-55:

Yes you will need a disk. Dell changed the procedure with Vista and the one I linked to is the current way to restore of couse you need a disk. Now you could do this with a borrowed disk. All you need is a Vista disk to get to the recovery part.

Nope didn't receive any disks and I have already asked for the disks to be shipped to me.  I try pressing F8 over and over and over again.  Nothing works.  I guess I will just have to wait until the disks arrive.  Thanks for your help.
