Rundll32.exe - No Disc ( everytime I try to resize screen)

Question

This problem has driven me nuts for years and now I can not take it anymore. Everytime I try to resize my screen I keep on getting the error:

rundll32.exe -No Disk and the computer makes a sound. I have to just keep on clicking on the cancell a million times before it stops.

Why would I need a disc in the computer to resize the sceen.

Escorial, Rundll32.exe is apparently trying to run an attached disk command that it shouldn't.  The sound you mentionned.  Is it accompanied by the floppy or CD drive light(s) flashing on?   First, run System File Checker to verify the integrity and version of your Windows XP files. Have your Windows XP CD handy.  Click Start|Run.  Type sfc /scannow.  Press Enter.  Insert the XP CD if prompted.   You can also get a pretty good idea of just what is going on by checking the Event Viewer.  Click on Start|Control Panel|Administrative Tools|Event Viewer.  Look for recent event errors.  Right click on each and see if you can get some insight into what application hung during the screen resize attempt.   Also, have you added/removed a video card in recent years?   Let us know what you find.   Tony

I checked with EVGA to see if there were any updates and there answer was to go and look! I could find nothing new for the 6600 but there was somthing for the 7XXX card, so I wrote back and asked if that was it , so I'm still waiting.

Next I ran the System File Checker and while running the XP Page poped up asking do I want ti Reinstall XP excetra so I just clicked on exit and let the program contine to run. Well it ran and nothing happend when it was over. Is that what is should have done?

Now I went into the Event Viewer and while open I tried to resize the computer screen, I saw nothing different in the viewer and of course the RunDLL.32 no Disc kept on poping up as usuall. I did look at the event viewer and there were some earlier errors and some with the yellow triangle. I did open the properties to look and that was WAY above me.

I do not know if the one below helps but it did not come up when I just now tried to resize the screen. There also was another that I did not understand called IMageMagik I never heard of that and I do not believe I use there software??

Escorial,   First, should have told you to exit Windows Install if it popped up.  You did right.  If sfc /scannow ran to completion, then your Windows protected files are intact and of the correct version.   Imagemajick is a free-download image manipulation program from www.imagemajick.org.  It can convert images to and from over 100  formats.  I have no idea what program you use that may incorporate it in its program library.   Event ID: 1001 can be a lot of things.  You can check your drwtsn32.log that was created when the error occured.  A memory dump was also performed and can be found in the user.dmp file.  Common causes of Event ID: 1001 include video drivers such as those for Nvidia cards, a corrupt user profile, and Internet Explorer URL settings.   You can download the UPHCLEAN.EXE (User Profile Hive Cleanup Service) utility from here:  http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=1B286E6D-8912-4E18-B570-42470E2F3582&displaylang=en   In fact, Microsoft recommends running UPHCLEAN.EXE before you upgrade a Windows XP installation to Windows Vista. Tony,

I just got a notice to Update my Zone Alarm Pro (BTW Zone alarm is owned by a new compay) well i did the update and did the fresh install. After I did that I had to reason to resize my screen, but tis monring when I went to resize it now everything works as it should!

No more dll no-disk errors, so perhaps ZA had somthing to do with it. Its good now and I will not screw around with it.

Tony and anyone else, well it has come back again! Now every once and ahile when I'm on my desk top and right click the mouse and click on properties I get the same error, that is only once and awhile. Also the original problem when I go to resize  same thing.   This is driving me nuts!   John
