Scheduled Tasks Question
Hello, I hope someone can help me with this problem. I have been trying to schedule maintenance tasks and have been unsuccessful using XP's "Scheduled Tasks application". Every task, I thought was being scheduled, would give me this error: "The new task has been created, but may not run because the account information could not be set. The specific error is: 0x80070005: Access is denied. Try using the Task page Browse button to locate the application". Then I tried to Google this error and saw that it was a pretty common problem and found this URL, http://blogs.chron.com/helpline/archives/2005/12/denied_access_t.html . I did what it said and contacted Microsoft and referenced the number given, They're response was this:" Microsoft Contact US to me show details 11:53 am (3 hours ago) Hello John, Thank you for contacting Microsoft Online Customer Service. I appreciate the information you have provided. I realize your concern and will assist you in reaching the appropriate resource. I have gone through the information you have provided and the article you have mentioned and found that this Hotfix is not applicable for Windows XP Media Center Edition. This hotfix is only applicable for - Microsoft Windows XP Professional - Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition For your convenience, I have included the link for the article 884573. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/904423/en-us Windows XP Media Center Edition is only distributed as an OEM version. This means it comes pre-installed with computers. I recommend contacting your computer manufacturer for further assistance. They will be in a better position to assist you in this concern. If a product or software is preinstalled or distributed with your computer, your primary source for support is the computer manufacturer who provided your Microsoft software. If you would like to contact your OEM for any warranty or no-charge support, please view the following page that lists contact information for most computer manufacturers: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=fh;en-us;oemphone OEM stands for "Original Equipment Manufacturer." This refers to a company that produces hardware to be marketed under another company`s brand name. For example, if Sony makes a monitor that will marketed by Dell, a "Dell" label will get stuck on the front, but the OEM of the monitor is Sony. Note that part of the OEM and Microsoft agreement is to allow Original Equipment Manufacturer's to provide support for products they have installed on a particular computer. This agreement was made only because OEMs often modify and pre-install Microsoft software on their computers to ensure compatibility and to take full advantage of your computer’s hardware. This means the OEM has the expertise on how your Microsoft software works on your particular computer. Each OEM has different business policies and thus has different reasons to do this. I called Dell Support, the people I spoke with had no idea what I was talking about. Can this in fact be corrected? And if not is there an alternative program I could use. thank you so much, sorry for the long post GianRoss John, I look forward to your issue being resolved at the earliest Thank you for using Microsoft Products and Services. Click Start, Run and type Gpedit.msc to bring up the Group Policy editor. In the Local Computer Policy list, expand Computer Configuration, Windows Settings, Security Settings, Local Policies.
Click on "User Rights Assignment" and double click "Access this computer from the network" and then click Add User or Group. Add the the user name or the group name in the Enter the object names to select area.
Click Check Names to verify what you selected and click OK twice to exit.
This will allow you to program access in scheduled tasks."
