Vista on XPS w/ RAID 1

I saw some issues with Vista and RAID 1. I received my Vista upgrade DVD. I am running a RAID 1 configuration on an XPS desktop with XP Media Center Edition. Are there still any issues or have they been corrected? Is there anything I need to do other than run the two disks that Dell sent?

I am running mine in a Raid 1 array and haven't noticed any issues.  Vista Ultimate, 64bit version.  I assume the 32bit version would be the same but can't say.

Okay thanks. I assume you mean an upgrade from XP to Vista, not an upgrade from Vista.

You are correct, upgrade from XP to Vista

Was yours an upgrade via the Dell-supplied DVDs or a clean install?

It as an upgrade from a version of Vista that I purchased at the store.

James,

What exact model of XPS do you have? I have an XPS 410 with RAID 1 and am still waiting for my disks (I applied for program on November 29th and should have received them). Mine has the Dell "Datasfe" system on it.

Even more troubling for me; that is the model I have and I had thought the order was delayed due to the RAID 1 configuration - NOT!

So far two e-mails and two phone calls (I was hung up on once) and NADA from Dell. I am totally disgusted with Dell and their pathetic customer service; what a waste!

Apple, here I come!!!  :smileymad:

Well, if you want an apple, then go get yourself one, why not?

As for this specific issue, I have a few things to say.

-Vista is immature, don't use it or live with it.
-All OSes are the same when they are releaes.

Gee, lets look at Mac OSx, umm, to start,  none of the hardware that was  older than 6 months out was supported.

Vista will be solid just like XP.  You people have to understand, that when a company releases an OS, it take a while to work out the bugs.  If you don't like it, then stick with one the the XP OSes, II'm sure you will be happy.

All of this blaming Dell, and blaming MS is getting tireing.  Again, if you don't like it, don't buy a dell, don't buy vista.  Stay with the computer that you have, or go buy a Mac (and be ).

Lets all take a deep breath, and remember, new operationg system just released, time needs to be taken to work out the bugs.  Its life, deal with it.

Yea, good idea, go buy a Mac. Give that idiot Jobs some of your money.
Ran his big mouth forever about how bad Intel was, hummmm, now he uses Intel.
He says windows is no good, and low and behold, they write some 400 dollar program so their "flawless" OX can run windows,,,LOL
Can you say hypocrite!!!

As to Vista, I've been running it on my XPS 700 with raid 0 since November, and all I have to say is AWESOME!!!   Rock stable, aesthetically cool, fantastic OS, great job MS!!
Too bad Nvidia, Ati and the other supporting partys,LOL dropped the ball... Shame on them, they had plenty of time to get ready, and to date, still no SLI support, iffy raid support, come on guys, get with the program.
So I agree, stop whining about Dell, and MS, do the research, make your decision, and live with it, don't blame someone else....
Have a nice nite,
jd

You say you have no problem with RAID and then "iffy RAID supprt." Could you please clarify. I am leaning toward doing the upgrade when I can set aside a full day, but have just seen a few comments on RAID arrays hanging up for 20-30 seconds every few minutes.

He's saying that in general driver support has been iffy for RAID.

However the XPS410 has solid RAID support and has since well before the launch of Vista.

I've worked on this OS for more than 2 years and have had an XPS410 that was running as a dedicated beta testing machine since October so everything from RC2 onto the final gold code of Vista ran on this machine flawlessly and with no extra drivers required.

Good point guys but DELL needs to communicate with it's customers and not "stonewall" or hang up on them when they call. I could accept a delay knowing it was due to a driver but not knowing if my order was lost and being treated the way Customer Support is treating me (us); I'll check out other companies in the future.

Dell definitely needs to be "bashed" for some of their handling of this! What isn't their fault fine; but what IS - LET'S HEAR SOME ANSWERS!!! :smileymad:

Wonderful.

Now I just need to determine if my Linksys router and my Linksys wireless print server have any issues.
