Win Fax and Scan receives but does not send fax in windows 7

I transferred my Conexant D850 D56K v90 DFVC modem from my dell dimension 8400 to a new windows 7 desktop.  Windows 7 recognizes it and loaded a driver.  I can receive faxes using Winfax and Scan but I cannot send a fax.  The fax  shows it as sending but I checked and no signal is received by the telephone fax line to which it is being sent.  I get a response which either says busy or no answer but that is not correct.  The fax is just not getting past my modem.  All the settings look correct .  I can fax hard copies out using my separate fax machine but its easier to send some word docs via my computer.

Any suggestions?

Jake,

A couple of things. Did you install the drivers in the compatibility mode?

Right click on the drivers file, left click properties, left click compatibility. Change the compatibility to Vista. Then right click on the drivers, left click run as administrator.

If using DSL, do you have a dsl filter on the line?

Maybe you might want to try BVRP PhoneTools for Faxing and see if this program works.

HI Rick

Thanks for your suggestions. I use a regular telephone line for faxing.  My laptop using windows XP fax works on this line, if I need it, as does my separate HP AIO fax.  I went to devise manager and found my Conexant modem but could not find an option to change the compatibility mode as I can with other programs.  Windows 7 says my modem is compatible with my windows 7 64 bit and automatically installed some sort of driver when I turned on the computer and it correctly recognized my modem.  The driver works for faxes received by my PC but some setting is preventing the modem from sending a fax signal out.  I can also scan with windows fax/scan as it links to my HP scanner via a router.  My modem also passes the "query my modem" diagnostic test.

I could install my old Dell driver but that was for windows XP 32bit and may cause even more problems and I am not comfortable just trying other drivers for this modem which Conexant does not really support.  Perhaps the problem occurred when I used Microsoft's "easy" transfer for my new computer.  Some incompatible codes may have been transferred but I don't know.  Microsoft is almost infinitely complex, confusing and frustrating - but I am stuck with it for now.

Jake,

Just some thought.

I'd try uninstalling the Conexant modem, then restart your computer. If you have XP drivers, install them in the compatibility mode. If you have Vista drivers, try them in the compatibility mode. Using the compatibility mode in Windows 7 is usually great from the problem device/drivers/software. Most of the time, if you have them, the Vista drivers in the compatibility mode work pretty good.

Remember, with Windows 7, the default network group is WORKGROUP and with XP it's MSHOME.

How to Network with HomeGroup in Windows 7 might also help you as well as Share Files and Printers between Windows 7 and XP (same basic principal)

Hello Jake c,

Have you checked compatibility?
Just an FYI for you.

It is always best to check with the software manufacturer FIRST. They will tell you if they have tested the product and the version, as well as whether or not it will work with Windows 7.
Check out the Windows 7 Compatibility site: (There you will find out about hardware and software compatibilty.)
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/compatibility/en-us/default.aspx
There is a pulldown from which you can choose "hardware" and "software".

There are also some great articles, instructional videos and such to help with your Windows 7 at our Springboard site:
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/default.aspx

In any event a lot of the times, Vista drivers will work in lieu of Windows 7 drivers, however, it's not 100%!

As stated previously, it's best to have the Windows 7 certified drivers installed.

Microsoft does have an official Windows 7 Support Forum located here http://tinyurl.com/9fhdl5 . It is supported by product specialists as well as engineers and support teams. You may want to check the threads available there for additional assitance and support.

Thanks again,
John M.
