Win XP Home SP3: Firefox 3.5 won't open after update; IE8 won't open @ all
I'm running a fully updated two-month-old XP installation and this past week I'm finding that Firefox 3.5 simply will not open, either from the taskbar, the start menu, or a desktop icon. The only way I have found to get it going is to use system restore in safe mode to restore to a date on which it was working. It will work for a while and then quits after closing the browser. Has anyone else run into this?
Also, I have this machine set to download (but not install) Windows updates automatically. Another user let XP install IE 8 (which I didn't want) and now IE does not open @ all. Is there a way of reverting back to IE 7?
This is a hard-wired DSL connection and there are no connection issues whatsoever.

Add remove programs will enable you to automatically revert to IE7 by uninstalling IE8. Go to the Firefox help pages for assistance with Firefox. I would try downloading a new copy of it. A new version of Firefox was just released this week.

Firefox seemed like this for me for a while.How many add-on's have you got on the customised Firefox.I disable the .net Microsoft one and help me load qiucker.
Have you any Google toolbars on your Firefox that was also a killer that stopped my smooth running.

I wondered about uninstalling IE8 and whether I'd still have access to IE7. I only use IE on a handful of sites that are still (bizarrely) not optimized for Firefox.
As far as the FF problem is concerned, I have no add-ons and no add'l toolbars on the installation that's giving me trouble. I have two Dell Dimension 8400s that are nearly identical and (oddly) on the one where both IE 8 and FF 3.5.2 work fine I have quite a few add-ons. Go figure...

In addition to what Mary and Good Golfer stated, if you feel that Mozilla Firefox is malfunctioning, you can export your bookmarks, then go to control panel, add/remove programs, and un-install Mozilla Firefox. After you restart your computer, the right click start, left click explore, go to program files, look for the Mozilla Firefox folder and delete it. The download and install Mozilla Firefox, again.
I hated IE7 and stayed with IE6 on my XP machine, until I gave it to my son. IE7 disabled some programs and they did not work properly. Wghen I went back to IE6 they worked, again.
