Windows 7 firewall

Hello,

i
am using windows 7, I have a message that says to update my firewall settings,
windows is not using the recommended settings to protect your computer. whenever
i try to open windows firewall with advanced settings it gives me a error
message.

"There was error opening window firewall with advanced security snap in
"
The windows firewall
with advanced security snap-in failed to load. Restart the windows firewall
service on the computer that your are managing . Error
code:0x6D9

when i try to start the windows firewall services it says windows could
not start the windows firewall contact the service vendor.

I have removed all virus protection as well as the internet
security & it still will not open for me to change the settings. Any help
would be appreciated to help correct this problem, the next step just may be the
the sledge hammer. Thank You!

Hi Batman10,

You may try the following steps:

Please run the Fixit:

  • Click on the link http://bit.ly/j95Frh
  • Click ‘Run Now’
  • Click on ‘Save’
  • Choose the location as desktop, save the file on the desktop
  • Right click on the file and choose ‘Run as Administrator’
  • Choose ‘Allow’ if prompted
  • Follow the on screen instruction to run the program
  • Restart the computer

If the above Fixit does not resolve the issue, then try the alternate Fixit. Here is the link http://bit.ly/rhVIkp

If the above steps do not work, you may perform 'System restore':

  • Click on 'Start'
  • Click on 'All Programs' then click 'Accessories'
  • Click on 'System Tools'
  • Click on the 'System Restore'
  • Then click 'Next' on the "Restore system files and settings" window
  • Then choose the restore point that you want to use(choose a date when the system was working good)
  • After that click 'next' to continue
  • Then click 'Finish' on the "Confirm your restore point" window to start the System Restore
  • Then Click 'Yes' to the once started, System Restore cannot be interrupted. Do you want to continue? dialog box.
  • System Restore will now restore Windows 7 to the state that was recorded in the restore point.
  • Immediately after logging in to Windows 7 after the reboot, you should see a message that System Restore completed successfully
  • Click Close, restart the computer

Hope this helps.
