Windows Live Messenger sign in problems

Since getting my new E521 with Vista Premium I have not been able to sign into live messenger. Microsoft suggested numerous things including downloading the latest beta version 8.5 which I did but nothing seems to work.

The error message that i get everytime is:------

Signing into Windows Live Messenger 8.5 Beta failed because the service is temporarily unavailable. Please try again later.

Error code: 80070005

Also your firewall may be blocking messenger. If you have antivirus and firewall make sure Windows Live Messenger is permitted to have access.

Thanks for the link.

I did try totally removing McAfee to see if that was the problem but made no difference.

Go back to ver. 8.1
Microsoft snuck in the beta on you. I use 8.1 and had problems on Thursday but has been fine since.

Are you signed into the NET Messenger Service.
Check by opening up Live Messenger tools, options, connection tab. There will be connection status at the top and showing that you are currently connected to the Net messenger service. Click the refresh button if it says you are not.

Windows Live messenger 8.5 (Build 517) looks a little cleaner than 8.1.
But as kpo127 said revert back to 8.1 if you are having problems with 8.5.
