Windows Media Player?

Thank you for posting on Dell Community Forum, Please follow the below mentioned steps carefully, this should resolve the issue.

Start Windows Media Player

To start Windows Media Player, click the Start button , click All Programs, and then click Windows Media Player.

Please first access Clean Boot to check the issue. If the issue disappears in the Clean Boot environment, you can continue to narrow down which entry is causing the issue.

Please use the below mentioned link to perform a clean boot to check the issue.

If the issue persists, try uninstalling and then reinstalling Windows Media Player by the steps below.

• Open Control Panel/Programs and Features.
• Click "Turn Windows features on or off" in the left pane.
• Expand "Media Features", uncheck "Windows Media Player". Click "Yes" to continue, and click OK to quit. Then Restart.
• Note: If you turn off WMP, Windows Media Center will be turned off either. You may need to re-configure settings for Windows Media Center after re-enabling it.
• Open "Turn Windows features on or off" again. Turn on the features "Windows Media Player" and "Windows Media Center". Restart.
• Launch Windows Media Player, initialize the program.

If the steps above don't work above for you, take note:

Some countries don't allow Microsoft to bundle Microsoft Internet Explorer or Microsoft Windows Media Player with Microsoft Windows 7...

These are the so called N or KN editions, for these see here and get the Media Feature Pack.

Well, this is nither an N or KN (I'm in the US).  The computer came with Windows 7 Home and Student. On the Microsoft site I upgraded to Home and Business.  Windows Media Player *does not* appear in "Programs".  I tried "clean boot"and it still did not appear. When I tried to download from the Microsoft site, I got an error message telling me it was not appropriat for my system to download it.  I checked both Home and Student and Home and Business..both state that Media Player should be part of the package.  So what do I do now?

(I have, by the way, multiple service warranties on this laptop ... and have tried without success to find a place where it is explained...in simple English, not legalese... what they cover. I think I'm covered for help from Dell to resolve this, but can't be sure...)
