Windows Vista laptop causing problems on the network with DFS

Hello all,

I'm currently running Vista Business SP2 32 bit on my Latitude e6500. It's the only Vista client in our network, all others are XP and our servers are a mixture of Windows 2000 and 2003. I noticed in one of our server logs that my laptop was advertising as a browser and this was conflicting with the server, so I did a bit of Googling and found a recommendation to stop and disable the computer browser service on my laptop. We are having a few strange issues with files on our DFS shares, when some XP users open files on the shares (such as Excel for instance) the application hangs for a good few minutes before returning to normal. My colleagues seem to think my Vista installation may be causing the problem, could this be the case....?

If your Vista laptop is off line (not on the network) are the XP users still having problems?  That would be a good starting point.  Your network administrator should also be the one to sort out and correct whatever the DFS problem is.
