e1705 - New install, Device Manager fails to recognize devices

I recently purchased an Inspiron e1705 with Vista pre-installed, and I wanted to dual-boot with XP. After I installed Windows XP Pro (trial version) on a partition of my e1705, I checked the Device Manager and noticed that a number of devices were not being recognized. Under "Video," the only device shown is "VGA Adapter," and the Nvidia 7900 GS does not show up at all. Under "Network Adapter," only "1394 adapter" appears. Question marks appear next to "Ethernet Controller," "Wireless Controller," and "Modem."

Anyway, I booted onto my Vista partition, downloaded e1705 drivers from Dell's Drivers and Downloads page, and switched over to the XP partition to install them. I first installed the Notebook System Software package, then the Intel Mobile Chipset Driver, and then the NVidia 7900 GS driver, all with no error messages. After restarting, though, the Device Manager still did not recognize any new devices. Trying to install a Broadcom 440x 10/100 Integrated Controller (network driver) gets me an error indicating that no device was found.

Also, I should mention that trying to install from the drivers CD that the e1705 came with got me an "Error 1722." I guess that might be because the CD was designed for Vista? Anyway, I'm pretty clueless at this point, can anyone help?
