hard drive failure - how do i reinstall windows
hello - Im convincedmy hard drive has failed - - No boot disc. Its happenned a few times and have always been able to get it to a chkdsk and recover...Cant even get that far this time
So, im potentially left with replacing the hard drive. My question is I have a Dell Desktop 5100 which came with Windows 7 preinstalled - but later upgraded to Windows 10.
If I put a new hard drive in - how do i recover the operating sytsem side of things - because in the model I have I was never provided any Windows recovery media....

N.B. If this is the ancient Dimension 5100 (2005 model)... then you will be restricted to 32 Bit Windows and even then it won't run Windows 10 very well...
You can Download a Windows 10 .iso from Microsoft and directly clean install Windows 10 on your Dell system. You will not need to input your Product Key as your system is already a Windows 10 Device however you can input the product key from the Windows 7 Retail License.

You can get the Windows 10 recovery media from Microsoft (the system will already have a digital entitlement since Windows 10 was already activated on it).
