is it just me or does vista seem to when running games.... this pc is 3 days old and it seems to run battlefield2 slower everyday... whats the deal

This is due to poor graphics card driver support from ATI and Nvidia. Expect performance to increase with subsequent driver releases and always keep them up to date.

Actually, if you do a little research you'll find numerous sites that talk about how gaming takes a 10-20% performance hit in Vista. Some of the issue is related to the need for the games to be DirectX 10, others are related to the lack of support for OpenGL. If you are a hard-core gamer, Vista is not the OS for you (at least not right now). That said, if you have AERO shut off you'll see some performance increase in non-DirectX 10 games.

and my media player gets this weird lag like every 10 min or so and skips for a sec... seems like theres more dislikes than likes for me on vista... and what is AERO lol... i sound so noobish hahah
