lost icons, taskbar ,start menu....reinstalling XP home didnt fix it.
I've no desktop icons, taskbar, start...and now after reinstalling XPhome I've lost my docs.
A few weeks ago we lost all the icons & start buttons on our computer. After entering our password we were SLOWLY taken to the desktop which was absolutely blank except for our desktop photo background. The icons, start menu and taskbar were missing. You could access most everything thru the task manager using CONTROL-ALT-DELETE. Everything was still there.
I could reboot in safe mode and then I could see the icons, start button and taskbar....but only in safemode.
I tried doing a restore....no luck. I tried a few other things. Then several folks from this forum suggested that I reinstall XP home....
AFTER REINSTALLING XPhome ...which I did last night ...I have lost all my documents, pictures, everything and I still don't have icons, start menu or taskbar.
Is there anyway to get my lost stuff back?
Why aren't my icons and stuff on my desktop....Please any and all suggestions are greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
Dixie

I hadn't noticed your other posting prior to replying to this one so I'll defer to the others that are trying to help you. Hope you get it all worked out.

Hi dixie
Sometimes people are to quick to tell you to reinstall windows without first telling you to back up your important stuff first. As Eddj said in his post it might have been a simple fix. Now the damage has been done with the reinstall you've probably lost all your personal stuff. It's start over time including formatting and reinstalling windows, then your drivers, chipset etc, then reinstalling all your programs, then everything will probably work again. Good luck and next time make sure you have a good backup program so you won't be in this shape again.:smileyhappy:

Have you tried right clicking on the desktop. Highlight "Arrange Icons By" and clicking show desktop icons?

I think this might be a virus
Look if you have sysu.exe running in Taskmanager
1) Ctrl+alt+delete and identify sysu.exe in the processes list.
2) Close it, and go to C:\Program Files.
3) Locate C:\Programs\ddm and delete it.
