Stopping search for File Server

We have Dell Wyse 3040 thin clients.

We just want to hook them up and connect to an RDS, the connection works but we want to lower the startup time by disabling the search for the File Server.

I am unable to find any disable features within the thin client.

Richard,

If this is a ThinOS device, you can use the WNOS.INI file and add the line "WDMService=No" or you can try to go to System Setup>Central Configuration, select the "WDA or WDM" tab, depending on your firmware version, and uncheck all the boxes under "Discovery Settings"

Hi,

But how to do I modify the WNOS.INI file?

If you are managing the device using Wyse Management Suite (WMS) then you would edit the policy for the group that device belongs to under the advanced section check "No Global INI".

What if you do not want to use WMS or WDM?

How do you edit the Global INI?

update: 8/27/19

1. Using notepad create a wnos.ini file.

2. On one line in the file write the following:

WDMService=No Quickmode=no Discover=no

3. Create a folder: wnos in a FAT32 flash drive and save the wnos.ini file in the folder

4. plug it in to your Wyse 5070 and reset to factory default settings

5. Click "Yes" when asked "Would you like to load a ThinOS configuration file from USB?"

6. Enjoy NO MORE FILE SERVER CHECKING!!!

You just need to add two parameters: Device=Ethernet StaticIPWaitFileServer=1

the most important is StaticIPWaitFileServer=1.

why set StaticIPWaitFileServer=1 ?

you can see the INI document:

StaticIPWaitFileServer — Default is 0. Specifies the timeout threshold in seconds for cases of static IP.
NOTE: The default 0 turns off this parameter and allows the system to wait the system default 120 seconds.

The StaticIPWaitFileServer default parameter is 0,and you will wait for 120 seconds for file server,so you just need to set the parameter as 1.
