V10LE & T10 – FREEZING AND CRASHING (XENAPP4.5 - 7.x & .NET APPS)
Hi guys & Roger,
In one of my environments I have a mixture of 500x clients: V10LE (90%) & T10 (10%) thin clients. Please note the clients are V10LEs not V10Ls...
V10LEs have been rock stable for years with no issues. Around 6-9 months ago we upgrade them from 7.1_033 to 8.0_512. All was fine till recent 3 weeks when MULTIPLE V10LEs started to crash/freeze at the same time. We are not 100% sure if T10s are also affected...
When V10LEs freeze they lose network connectivity with the last displayed screen state, i.e. there is no Trap error on screen, just the last application state. Obviously, something triggers this multi-freeze issue but I don't know what.
My questions to you guys are:
- have you experienced similar issues with V10LE on 8.0_512?
- do you think that not resetting V10LEs to factory defaults after the upgrade from 7.1_033 to 8.0_512 could contribute to the above issue?
Thank you,
Regards,
UPDATE:
Looks like T10s with 8.3_014 firmware are also affected.
Seems like a serious vulnerability in Wyse thin clients then...
Our support teams are investigating but so far nobody has a clue what was causing this.

Hi,
The same issue with crashed/frozen thin clients (T10s this time) is appearing now also in a completely different site in my environment. It started to happen couple of weeks ago with random, single clients but recently it happened to around 30 clients at the same time.
Very strange and worrying issue.

David,
Sorry to hear about your troubles, but please note that the V10LE's have been around a long time and they where EOL's back in 06/13 (over four year ago) so we do not test with them anymore. 8.0_512 was the last firmware version that supported that thin client, so there is not much you can do as far as upgrading the firmware. I don't know what your environment is (RDP or ICA) or what version you are in, but you might have upgraded your server infrastructure and your V10LE's might be running our of memory and that's what is causing them to crash. This is only speculation. You might want to look at the V10LE event logs for some clues.
The T10 on the other hand, can be upgraded to the current version 8.4_110.
Maybe it's time you consider upgrading the TC. Current model, replacing the T10 and T10D is the 3040. Here's the link if you want to take a look at it:

Hi Roger,
Thanks for your input.
This problem does not seem to be related to our Windows or Citrix (4.5 - 7.x) infrastructure as the crashed terminals are spread between multiple farms. They even freeze when the app they run is not doing anything and when there is no interaction between users and the terminals.
Is it possible to make the logs in "Event Log" more detailed without enabling writing any logs to the FTP server?
I only know the below commands which increase amount of details in the logs but at the same write the logs to the text files on FTP server - I would like to avoid that:
Privilege=High EnableTrace=yes
SaveSysinfo=x.x.x.x/.../$tn.txt size=100
Looking forward to your reply.

Hi Roger,
Did you want to write "The event logs cannot be made more detailed and NOT be saved to the FTP server or to a USB stick."?
I am confused:)

David,
There is no way to include more details in the event logs.
They can be saved to the FTP server or to a USB stick. If you save on an FTP server, you can save the logs of all the failing devices. If you use a USB stick, you will have to install a USB stick on every client.
