XPS 8930 SE, keyboard initialization failure when BT are connected
I set up my XPS 8930 SE with the included wired keyboard and mouse and after I had set the machine up, I connected a wireless keyboard and wireless mouse (bluetooth). Upon a system restart, after the Dell screen I got a message of "keyboard initialization failure" which only stayed on screen for approximately 2 seconds then the machine continued to start up (I did not have to press anything, the system continued automatically). I connected the wired peripherals again, restarted, and unsurprisingly did not get the message. I disconnected the wired devices and restarted and again got the same "keyboard initialization failure" message, then without intervention, the machine continues on as normal. Now, this isn't a "sky is falling" event, just a little irritating when I have to restart my system. Any suggestions to having this stop? I thought that I may have read somewhere that it is a stored "history" within the BIOS, but that wouldn't explain the message not showing while using wired peripherals, then returning while using bluetooth devices? Sure they're Bluetooth?
If keyboard uses a USB dongle, is it connected to a rear USB2 port on the PC?
Might be a delay before BIOS can see the keyboard so it gives the error, but then it's seen and initiallized so the POST continues normally...
Is there an option in BIOS setup to stop BIOS on this model from reporting keyboard errors? That might put an end to the error messages, but it may not eliminate the delay before the POST continues...

I'm not using a bluetooth dongle, I'm using the PC's on board bluetooth receiver for both the keyboard and mouse.

The BIOS supports wired and USB wireless keyboards and mice but the computer needs to boot up and load the Bluetooth driver in order to support Bluetooth keyboards and mice. I do not believe the BIOS by itself supports Bluetooth.

@Vic384 beat me to it.
The BT card has to initialize and the driver has to load before the keyboard can be seen. So BIOS gives the error first and then continues once the keyboard is recognized.
Normal behavior, but annoying...

I can live with it but why would this not happen with my XPS 8700? Same scenario, bluetooth keyboard and mouse and I do not get this message when I reboot that system.

I am not sure why but in the XPS 8700 there is a setting called "Keyboard Errors" in the BIOS. According to the Owner's manual it says that this function is to "Display keyboard-related errors during boot" so depending on its setting, this may disable the display of keyboard errors during boot.

I had suggested you check BIOS to see if there's an option to disable reporting keyboard errors...
Looks like @Vic384 and I are on the same wavelength here...

You're right, and I may do that. I'm just never keen on mucking around in the BIOS. I'm already nervous to update mine from 1.7 to 1.8 based on some of the comments lol.

I didn't see a "Keyboard Errors" feature in the list of BIOS features in the XPS 8930 Service Manual but it could be a feature that has been added. The XPS 8700 Owner's Manual does list "Keyboard Errors" as one of the BIOS features.
