P2815Q, sound issues

My daughter gave me her Dell P2815Q monitor.  Since that time, I can't get my sound to go above a whisper.  Anyone have any ideas?

How is it connected? Most monitors don't have speakers so it should not interfere with your sound. See if this manual helps-- https://downloads.dell.com/manuals/all-products/esuprt_display_projector/esuprt_display/dell-p2815q-monitor_user%27s%20guide_en-us.pdf

Check your sound settings by right clicking on the speaker icon on the lower right in the Notification area. Volume control might be set incorrectly. Run the sound troubleshooter.

Mary,

Here are the following things I have tried.

1. Right-clicked on the sound icon and gone through the dialog box about sound.

2. Made sure the sound is turned up.

3. Looked at the manual.

4. Looked online.

No success.

Mary,

One last thing, I don't think I have a sound trouble shooter.

I think it would help if you told us what model computer you have and what operating system you are using. My research says that the Dell P2515Q does not have speakers. If so, then are you using separate speakers. I suggest you go to Control Panel / Hardware and Sound / Sound  and select the Playback tab and make sure Speaker / Headphones is selected, since it is possible that when you connected the monitor the sound output device changed.

marksmitheducate,

Let's start over.

* What specific XPS desktop model? Example XPS 8900
* List EVERY cable or device connected to the XPS desktop (mouse, keyboard, speakers, etc.)
* List in detail how the P2815Q is connecting to the Ati Radeon HD 4650 video card using what cables and ports on both

Here is the P2815Q User's Guide. We can see on page 15 that the P2815Q has the Audio Out port. This is for the Dell Soundbar or any powered external speakers. But NOT for headphone usage. All audio IN is from the XPS desktop HDMI/DP/mDP out ports, then into the P2815Q. The P2815Q itself does NOT have volume control. All volume control is done via the XPS desktop operating system.
