Question about CUDA Toolkit and Glaze

Hi.

I'm using a Dell XPS 8930. It has 16 GB of RAM.

I'm not sure if this is the right forum to post this question. Basically, I make art as a hobby and want to protect my work from AI mimicry. The instructions for Glaze say that I have to download and install the CUDA Toolkit 12.1, before I can use Glaze. Also, Glaze is a fairly new program. What are the chances of a new, freeware program causing critical errors on my computer? Should I wait a bit longer before using Glaze? I'd appreciate any advice.

Here's more about Glaze:

First you have to check to see if your NVidia GPU is CUDA compatible, assuming you don't have an AMD GPU.

The Glaze app is only a beta, so how can anyone possibly know how well it works and what problems it might cause?

You should manually set a System Restore point after installing CUDA, assuming your GPU is compatible, and then again after installing Glaze to be safe.

If I was interested in this approach, I'd only use Glaze on a copy of my original artwork file, never on the original file.

And even if you use it successfully, there's no guarantee some hacker won't develop a work-around. Then if the Glaze developers counter the work-around with "version 2", will that version do any damage to files already "treated" with version 1, etc?  This could become an endless game of whack-a-mole between Glaze developers and hackers.

Hi Ron,

Thanks for your reply. I've got a NVidia Geforce that's compatible.

I was hoping some people on this site may have used the program. Not sure I want to be a beta tester.

Thanks for the advice about restore points. Good idea.

I always make a duplicate of my original files at Web resolution, before I post them (I was planning to glaze a watermarked jpg).

You have a point about whack a mole....

Have a good day.

Since Glaze is still in beta, I doubt many people have ever heard of it before reading this thread. Have you browsed the internet to see if there are any discussions of this app, independent of its creators?

I suppose you could try it out, as long as you're fully prepared if something unexpected happens so it doesn't cause permanent damage to your artwork...
