RAM upgrade cap on XPS 9100??
So recently, i decided i would upgrade my XPS 9100s RAM. So i headed over to the dell webpage for the XPS 9100, and it said that the 9100s RAM could be expanded to 12 GBs max.
Does that means that you can only upgrade it to 12 GBs, or was 12GB the maximum amount of RAM you could choose when purchasing the Machine?

It means it has 6 ram slots with 4 gig Dimms max size.

That means the ram is limited to 24 gigs.
HOWEVER a newer system will be 500 percent faster.
Newer systems will also have Spectre and Meltdown Bios updates.

From the Dell manual:
Memory Connectors six internally‑accessible DIMM sockets Capacities 1 GB, 2 GB, and 4 GB Memory type 1333‑MHz DDR3 DIMM; non‑ECC memory only Minimum 3 GB Maximum 24 GB

The manual states 6 memory slots and with 4GB memory modules that would equal 24GB
Here is the Crucial Memory listing for the Studio XPS 9100. It shows 24GB also. Crucial is what we usually suggest for non-Dell branded memory as it is guaranteed to work in a Dell.

The Dell Studio XPS 9100's predecessor, the Studio XPS 9000/435T was also a X58 chipset system with 6 RAM stick slots. Despite stated max memory, users reported running with memory up to 192GB. I'm running with 48GB in mine. (Max RAM can depend on CPU.) Anyway, take stated max RAM values with a grain of salt...
