Studio XPS 8000 - Graphics card upgrade options?
Hi all. I have an (ancient, but still working great and reliable) XPS 8000, upgraded to Win10/64Pro. It has its original ATI Radeon HD 4350 512MB graphics card, which is running with some sort of driver. The problem is that driver does not fully support HDMI monitors (will not scale its output to get rid of black bars on a 1080l monitor).
I would like to upgrade to a basic (i.e. less expensive) dual-monitor graphics card that will:
1. Fit the chassis and not tax the 350W power supply.
2. Provide dual HDMI outputs (one can be DVI through a converter) driving 1920x1080
3. Have a current Win10/64 driver set that supports adjustable HDMI scaling
4. Compatible with any peculiar Dell BIOS issues
I don't need gaming performance! Many thanks in advance for any suggestions!!

Thanks for the suggestions. In the end, I did more research and selected the MSI GEFORCE GT710. I paid about $40 for it, and it works just fine with the old Dell 8000. It supports my two HDMI (1920x1080) monitors and NVIDIA has updated Win10-64 drivers. Remember, I'm not into gaming on this machine, so this $40 solution does the job for business applications.

Not sure what you mean by scaling.
Best compatible option is GT1030 2 gig card.

Pascal and earlier based cards are fine but the new RTX from NVIDIA and the R series from ATI do not work at all.
Older Dell Monitors will need HDMI ====> VGA with sound. Newer cards do not come with VGA ports.

New HDMI monitors with built in speakers just need an HDMI cable.

still running my XPS 8000. while back i was researching for an upgrade. the best i could do was a GTX750Ti 2gb. i believe i was held back by the power supple capacity. don't quote me. it was a while back and i decided not to upgrade.

Modern graphics cards, when connected to HDMI monitors, handle sizing or scaling the screen just fine. It just works, so you don't even think about having to adjust it. But my old original Radeon card, combined with the basic-only functionality of its Win-10 driver, did not scale the HDMI output to match the full resolution of the monitor. When this happens, you see black bars on all four sides of the monitor. An updated driver would allow for manual scaling (or resizing) of the video output to match, but again, the old hardware and driver did not. Problem solved with the GT 710 and its up-to-date Nvidia driver.
