Studio XPS 8100 replacement HDD, restore via BackUp & File restore
Hoping to find suggestions & recommendations for a replacement internal hard drive for my trusty Studio XPS 8100 running windows 10.
I'm a pensioner on a budget and once the Dell XPS desktop started clicking on start up then failed to start I reckoned another hard drive required - 1TB 3.5" 7200 rpm SATA111.
Ive not keep up with lastest HD's should I be OK with Seagate 1TB BarraCuda 72000rpm 64mb but has SATA 6 gbs?
Hope the forum can help me on this matter.
Thanks

@Olduser1 The Studio XPS 8100's SATA interface is SATA 2 (3 Gbit/s), but SATA 3 (6 Gbit/s) drives are backward compatible. The Seagate 1TB BarraCuda 72000rpm 64MB should work fine.

@Olduser1 - Depending on your budget and storage needs, you might consider an SSD instead of a HDD. An SSD will certainly work faster than a HDD.
You could get a Crucial 1T SSD that's compatible with your PC model for ~$115, or a 2T SSD for twice that price. Other brands, eg Samsung, may also offer SSDs that are compatible with your PC too.
