So today, like an idiot, I decided to force the Windows update to 2004 on my XPS 8900. Everything seemed to go smoothly and I was able to get into the updated Windows and browse the Internet. I noticed in Device Manager that there was a notice to reboot the computer to install the latest firmware.

During the reboot, the system BIOS was updated to version 2.7.1. After the BIOS update the PC won't boot. I get the Windows logo and the revolving circle. But, after 60 seconds or so the circle freezes and nothing else happens. I cannot get into Windows.

I can get into the BIOS using F2 and tried resetting to defaults but no joy.

I have tried power off and on numerous times -- no luck.

I noticed that the latest released BIOS for the XPS 8900 on the Dell web site is 2.6.1. I do not know where 2.7.1 came from except that it was apparently part of the Windows 10 2004 update.

I'm hoping to be able to downgrade the BIOS to 2.6.1 but, since I cannot get into Windows, I don't know how to do this.

Any suggestions on how to downgrade the BIOS without being able to get into Windows (or any other suggestions) are much appreciated.
