XPS 8500, BIOS update will not install
Dell Support Assist keeps sending me a message that I need to update my BIOS (the A12 update). When I click on Install, I get a "Bad Commad Line" error box which states, "The command line parameter is not correct." When I click the "OK" button, I get this message: Drive Installation Completed Successfully. However, when I check the system information it shows that the BIOS is still A11, and later on or the next day, I get the same message from Dell Support Assist that I need to update the BIOS.
Does anyone know why the update will not install? One post I read for a different XPS desktop said that one should wait three weeks before installing any BIOS update. Can someone with expertise please advise? Thanks!

The only item changed in BIOS A12 was, "Modify HDD information shown in setup". So it added nothing in the actual running of the computer. I would not install it. I have the 2014 Area51-R2 running BIOS A03 dated 7/28/15. Even though Dell has offered 9 later BIOS updates, I have not installed them. Why, because the system is running fine. For this 2012 computer, I doubt that any new files or drivers will be released. So ask yourself, "Do I really even need the Dell Support Assist?". You could also try uninstalling Dell Support Assist, rebooting, then reinstalling it.
Just some stuff to ponder...

Thanks for the input. I am not going to be in any hurry to install the BIOS Update.
