8 year old XPS likely needs  Advanced Format F6 Drivers as well as GPT  UEFI boot sector.

Either way Windows will not see any drives without the F6 mass storage drivers and sata set to AHCI.

Advanced format drives are required for drives larger than 120 gigs and older than 2011.

For disk drives beyond 2.2TB, the proper level of Intel RST driver should be v10.1 or higher.

Disk Drives with 4K Advanced Format Sectors MUST USE F6 Drivers to see a hard drive.

Windows 10/8/8.1/7 and Vista can only boot GPT on systems with UEFI BIOS

You cannot point to an EXE or ZIP or CAB file it must be extracted and on a usb2 flash drive.

It would help if you told us a little more about your computer. What OS are you using? What model Dell do you have?
