XPS 8700 extremely slow and virtually unusable

Question

I have a XPS 8700 i7 4790 CPU at 3.6GHZ, 1TB hard drive. My machine is 4 years old. The problem of being extremely slow and mostly unusable started on the 31st July after a big Microsoft 10 update. I have tried system restore. The only restore point is 31st July. A system restore back to that date failed, tried 3 times. I have a USB Windows 10 recovery drive. Could I run this and restore windows 10 back to the original state. Or will it format my hard drive and install windows 10.

Have fixed the problem. It was the latest Windows 10 update causing the problem. I was able to go back to the last windows 10 version before the update. You can do this within 10 days of the update. Computer now working well, back to normal, no more issues with being slow. Not sure what will happen after the next windows update though.

An update. When I closed down my computer last night it installed the Windows 10 update. Thinking that I would be back to square 1, I tentatively turned on the computer this morning and everything is running fine. Not sure why the first update soured it all.

I have similar problems. I just clocked the computer startup, it literally took 5 minutes 11 seconds to start up, it used to be very responsive. any idea about which update version caused the problem. my problem has lasted for a couple of months now and therefore, likely no way to go back using the restore method unless I reinstall the system. any help on this will be much appreciated.

blame it on Microsoft and Windows 10.  incremental numerous Windows 10 update makes pc slower than a fresh clean install.  I can only suggest a clean install after backing up data.
