XPS 8700, white power button, black screen

When I turn on my pc, the starting button remains white (it used to turn orange) and no signal is sent to the screen, which stays black. What should I do?

Thank you in advance,

The button on my old 8700 starts orange/amber and then turns white.

On such an old model, the first thing to try is buying a new coin cell battery and replacing the old one. Buy a new cr-2032 battery for about a dollar at any store that sells batteries and replace the old one.  Directions in your manual- xps 8700 Owner's Manual (dell.com)

That battery can last for 5-6 years or longer but when it dies it can prevent booting.

If power button stays white, it is normal.  Check video cable and monitor connection.  agree that replace cmos battery is cheap good test.  Are you using a video card or onboard video?  If video card, take it out and connect video cable to onboard video port to test.

And test this monitor and cable on a different PC or a different monitor and cable on this PC.

Try these fixes
Restart your graphics drivers
Force shut down your laptop
Boot into Safe Mode
Update your graphics driver
Restart your explorer.exe process
Repair your PC without losing any files
Reset or update the Bios
