XPS 8900, no boot after latest automatic update

After a recent automatic update my computer only goes to a black screen after the Dell logo finishes.

I’ve read a lot of answers, but don’t know what half of them are talking about.

I’ve restarted my computer over and over and same thing. I’ve pushed the F2 and the F12 hoping I could fix it using tips online, but I’m unable to change anything even if I wanted to. There are no boxes to check to change the startup sequence.

I just want windows to load so I can get my files off it and be done with it.

You may need to take the drive out and get an enclosure. It depends on what type drive you have

m.2 nvme sata ssd or sata hard drive. Then use another computer connect to USB port go to Computer and open the drive and get your files.

the automatic update may have caused windows OS load to crash.  for easier file retrieval, disconnect all the storage devices you currently have in 8900, be it hard drive, 2.5 ssd or m.2 ssd, then get a new hdd, connect it alone to 8900, use a usb drive to do a clean install of OS on it.  after OS is successfully installed, turn off pc, reconnect each old drive to 8900, start pc again.  hopefully pc will continue to boot from new os on new hdd, and then you can access thefiles on old drive as secondary drive.
