XPS 8900 to XPS 8930, compatibilities
Hello all,
Please forgive if my question is a bit silly/noobish but I have tried to but I cant seem to get a straight forward answer. So my XPS 8900 just died. I will be upgrading to the XPS 8930. I want to know if the ram and Msata from my XPS 8900 can be used in the XPS 8930? I already see that my blu ray burner would be crossed over.
Thank you all in advance

1. No, it uses newer/faster speed DIMMs.
2. The XPS-8930 instead has a (5 times faster) M.2-2280/PCIe/NVMe SSD slot on the motherboard. To get a mSATA drive to work at all, you would have to install a PCIe-Addin-Card with it installed on it. It might work, but it's not likely to be bootable. I would not mess with it unless it's a large SSD.
2.5inch SATA-3/600 SSDs are relatively cheap now-days.
3. Yes, from the pics, they both use those (low volume) laptop drives, if that's what you mean.

ok thank you, I get the ram part, but the msata that attaches to the motherboard is a no go as well. This what I had ; WD Blue 3D NAND 500GB PC SSD - SATA III 6 Gb/s M.2 2280 Solid State Drive - WDS500G2B0B
Weather as a boot drive or storage can it be reused? (preferably as a boot drive)

1. Right. Probably expensive back then. Something like this should work
PCIe Addin Card for M.2 SATA or M.2/PCIe/NVMe SSD
2. Can't say. I suggest you order XPS-8930 with a bootable M.2/PCIe/NVMe SSD (256gb is ok, but 512gb is better).
3. Should at least work as storage. If not, use old M.2-SATA-SSD somewhere else or sell it.

What's wrong with it? Did you have someone look at it to diagnose?
What do you use it for?
