XPS 8930, PSU upgrade?
Has anyone successfully upgraded the PSU from the 460w one? If so, which PSU did you buy and are any other additional purchases necessary like cables or something? I just want to make sure I don't buy a PSU on Amazon that won't fit or something, since I know a lot of stuff in this computer is proprietary.

XPS 8930, PSU upgrade
Thread = Both the Corsair HX and RM series PSU fit without problem.
Thread = I replaced it with a Corsair RM650i. It fits perfectly in the swing-out arm.

ive swapped out my dell xps 8930 psu with a corsair cx650m one thing you need is a mini sata power adaptor (sata 6 pin slimline) that's for the dvd drive. if you don't use dvd drive then you wont need that adaptor. got mines from amazon for about 6 bucks. i would get a modular psu since there not much room for unused cables.

Hi, I bought the same PSU that you commented about. Is it an easy install to do?
I also bought the slimline adapter too. Any tips or tricks?

I can confirm that this is true, I have a Dell XPS 8930 and I put in a corsair rm750i into my PC, and it fit like it was OEM. One thing to note is that you may have to remove the front drive bay (2 screws) in order to get the cables to fit better, especially the longer 24 pin motherboard connector.

Some have also needed the 15 to 6 pin sata power adapter for optical drive.

Just finished a PSU swap from a stock Dell 460watt to a Corsair TX750M (on sale with rebate) and used the adapter recommended by speedstep. Straight forward upgrade not to hard. I did need to pull the heatsink/fan (the larger one ) to get to the power connector underneath. I added a 120mm fan to the front. Powered it from the PSU. I found using the semi-modular PSU made it easier to manage the cables.
XPS8930 SE, i7-7700K, 1080GTX.
