XPS 8930, chipset heatsink missing?
Quick question...
The XPS 8930 service manual indicates the presence of heatsink on the chipset component in the bottom right quadrant of the motherboard. However, there is no such cooling device on my motherboard. Is there a problem with the motherboard as configured because of this omission?

This was a concern of Mine Dating Back to Inspiron 620 from August 2011.
HOWEVER Intel has stated for several chip sets that heatsink is optional. Its not missing its no longer needed. There is not even mounting holes for the Z wire that were on the XPS 8910 motherboard.
I use these because I do not like it not having one.
It cannot be very tall due to interfering with the Video slot. The fact that they are still making boards without a cooler on the South bridge means they are no longer needed.

IPCFL-VM Note the 8930 uses 4 pin header.
What order the wires are is where issues come in.
Blue = PWM Yellow/White = Tach Red = 12v Black = GND.
ASUS Seems to use this Kind of Numbering and Labeling.

The 8910 DID have the Z Wire and heatsink

The training page picture matches the Service Manual page 18 which shows a heatsink right of memory slots, above the PCIe slots. But those were written October 2017 so perhaps the configuration has changed in 20 months? The XPS 8930 parts page shows three motherboards =

Post a picture of your motherboard. Other XPS 8930 users should also check theirs and tell us the ship date.

Its not missing. It is no longer needed. HOWEVER I prefer to have a stick on heatsink anyway. See my previous post.

I'm certainly willing to accept the notion that the parts run cool enough NOW that a heatsink is no longer necessary. BTW, I had no idea that the 8930 and 8910 used the same mobo. I'd think that Dell has this design down pat by now.

8930 IPCFL-VM (DF42J) and 8910 IPSKL-VM (WPMFG)
do not use same motherboard.
They do use the same case layout and hole pattern and appear to be made for dell by ASUS.
ASUS PRIME B360M-A is very similar but uses the optional heatsink on the south bridge. I think this is for show just like premium ram makers put metal heatsinks on ram.

The Z370 series from Asus is superior to the 8930.
