XPS 8930, correct bracket for upper case fan

Question

Let me start by saying what wonderful knowledge I've found in these discussion boards, it's really helped me figure out how to improve the one shortcoming I'm experiencing with my XPS 8930: cooling. Based on some great threads here, I've ordered a Noctua NF-S12A FLX 3-pin 120mm fan to replace the stock 92mm upper case fan in my XPS. I also ordered the 7M0F5 bracket (and fan) from an R5/6/7 to go with it. I can post a link to the big auction site page for the item, but I'm not sure if allowed? My question surrounds the bracket: did I order the correct one for the top case fan? In some photos I've seen online, it appears to be black plastic (like the one I ordered) and in others (in some of the walkthroughs I've seen here), it appears to be a slightly different metal bracket. Thanks for your input, all! I'm sure there's a simple solution and I'm likely worried for nothing. This is my first-ever 'mod.'

This makes me wonder if I ordered the incorrect bracket. Using that same part number, I ordered this part, which appears to be black plastic and looks slightly different.

This fan seems to match the metal bracket mount that you mentioned. The part number on it also matches.

It's odd that the part number supplied in previous threads for the top fan bracket also pulls up results for the front fan bracket.

I've gone ahead and placed an order for this as well. I can use the other bracket to install an additional fan in the front of the XPS.

According to the Dell internal SPMD (Spare Parts Master Database), all of those sites are incorrect. 7M0F5 = Aurora R9/R10/R11, Precision 3630/3640 assembly fan 78JPW = Aurora R5/R6/R7/R8/R9/R10/R11 top fan with holder XPS 8930 J9VTG = Aurora R5/R6/R7, Precision 3630/3640 assembly fan with holder
