XPS 8940, Waves Maxx Audio Pro, USB headset not recognized

Hi everyone,

I am having a problem with the 8940 that I believe is related to Waves Maxx Audio Pro.

When I install the USB dongle for the Logitech Pro X wireless, it recognizes it as "External Speakers Medium." The Pro X wireless uses a 7.1 driver, and the spatial sound features do not work properly unless it is recognized as a headset. Is there a way to change the select output device or disable Waves Maxx?

Thanks,

DiAngelo

Did you open the Win 10 Sound screen with the USB headset connected and try changing the Output device setting there first?

Be sure to click Device Properties on that same screen, and on the new screen, try to set Spacial Sound.

Then scroll down and click Additional Device Properties, and on that screen, work your way through the options on all the tabs...

Thanks for the tips. I've tried all the settings, and I do get basic stereo sound. The issue is with Waves Maxx thinking I attached external medium speakers instead of a headset, thus disabling spatial sound, including Waves NX.

I understand and thought you should make sure all Win 10 options were set properly to rule them out.

You may need to uninstall Realtek Audio, listed under Sound, Video and Game Controllers in Device Manager, and then install the latest Realtek driver which fixes some "incorrect settings". Then reboot.

NOTE: Be sure to manually set a System Restore point, before uninstalling Realtek Audio, to be safe.

And you might have to uninstall and reinstall the Waves Maxx app after installing that new RealTek driver.

Did u find a solution? I have the exact same problem. I bought a HyperX wireless Headset and my DELL G7 7588 only recognizes as speakers, what make the sound terrible, especially for competitive games. The Maxx audio pro don’t allow to change the type of device if u plug in the usb, only if u plug on the P2! The PC also don’t accept the last Realtek driver, only the one in the Dell website.

Hi Febezera,

The solution is to disable the onboard audio in the Bios and install another internal sound card.

Waaves Audio and the Realtek driver will hijack any audio source you try to use and "enhance" the audio.

The only way to disable it is in the Bios. I installed a Sounblaster card and disabled the onboard sound driver.....No more worries and I've got better sound.

@Febezera  -

Dell customizes drivers so that may explain why only the Realtek driver on their support page for this specific PC model can be installed.

Does your headset require a driver and did you install it?

Have you selected the right audio output device in Windows settings?

Did you open the Waves control panel and make sure the "Advanced" box down near bottom on its Playback screen to allow a popup is checked? Try connecting the USB headset after you boot PC to desktop, and then wait up to ~30 sec to see if Waves pops up and asks what you connected.

Have you enabled the Equalizer on the Waves playback screen and adjusted the settings to your preferences?
