XPS 8940, keyboard does not wake computer from sleep
The standard HID keyboard with a new Dell XPS 8940 will not wake the computer from sleep. An older identical Dell standard HID keyboard wakes the computer. Both have identical latest drivers. Both have checked "allow this device to wake the computer.". The mouse wakes the computer. Switching USB ports does not solve the problem. Any ideas? I get by ok using the mouse but still wonder what may be the problem.

Strange, but the keyboard now wakes the computer after a Windows Insider update this morning. I cannot imagine how this solved a problem that had lasted for weeks but it has, at least for now.

Your list of keyboards has no bearing on the problem which is, - why my new XPS keyboard does not wake the computer but my older XPS keyboard does?

Did you also check the Power Management tab for all USB and all Human Interface Devices that have that tab in Device Manager to make sure the box "Allow PC to turn off..." is NOT checked?
And then go to the Advanced Setting screen for your active Power plan and disable Hybrid Sleep, USB Selective Suspend and PCI Express Link State Management. You may also want to disable Hibernation. Save the changes to the Power plan and reboot.
Does that help?
And I guess it's always possible, it's just a bum keyboard...

You should have mentioned using Windows Insider. That can break lots of strange things...
At least you got it fixed, until Microsoft breaks it again...

FYI - The keyboard woke the computer for 2 days but, after another Insider update, only the mouse wakes the computer. The trials of an Insider. But then maybe it is an anomaly with my keyboard or its USB plug. In any case I can live with this.

Have you reported this to Microsoft? it might be your keyboard but it could also be some changes they're making.
Open Device Manager and see if the keyboard is still allowed to wake, also check that all USB and HID devices with a Power Management tab, the box "Allow PC to turn off..." is unchecked.
Then, open the Windows Power & Sleep screen. Click Additional Power Settings. On next screen identify the active Power plan and click Change Plan Settings. On next screen, click Change Advanced Power Settings.
On that last screen, disable Hibernation, Hybrid Sleep, USB Selective Suspend, and PCI Express Link State Management. Save the changes to the Power plan and reboot.
