XPS 8940, new, won't start up
Hi All,
I just got a new XPS 8940 today in the mail direct from Dell and upon first start-up it seems to start to turn on but then the light just turns to a blinking yellow power light so the power light blinks white and yellow at different points but won't get solid and it never seems like the computer is turning fully-on. I'm not sure what to do, any thoughts? Thank you!

Yes, that sounds correct. According to the example above the Table, the first number represents the number of amber (yellow) lights and the second number represents the number of white lights. The recommended solution is to swap memory modules, but I would make sure the memory modules are properly seated. If you have two memory modules you could try swapping them or you could try just one memory module at a time. In case the single memory module you try does not work then try the other.

thank you, I'll try that. I'm not super experienced with opening up computers but hopefully it will be pretty straightforward.

Update, the blinking lights are two yellow and then four white. So it seems like that means Memory or Random-Access Memory RAM failure? Does that sound right...?

Thanks everyone, I'll try this out and check out the manual.

Also take a look at the Service Manual, page 70. The blinking LED light flashes a diagnostic code and from looking up the code in the Table 15 on that page, you can get an idea of what the problem could be and some recommended solutions.
