XPS 8950, DP to HDMI cable?
I have an XPS 8950 coming soon with only a DP out and my monitor has HDMI in. What is a decent but inexpensive cable? There are a few on Amazon but does anyone have a recommendation?

Right, best not to use "adapters" but sometimes you gotta (at least for a while or temporarily).
DisplayPort to HDMI . I always buy these CM-made adapters, and they always just work. Good company and they have been around for years.

I don't have another HDMI another cable right now to use, so I just want to buy a display port to HDMI cable instead of an HDMI cable and adapter

The XPS 8950 DP port is Dual-Mode DisplayPort 1.4. So all you need is an inexpensive, passive adapter to go from DP(PC) to HDMI(monitor).

They also have good HDMI-cables at Amazon.
High-Quality (perfectly working) passive-adapter are sometimes hard to find. HDMI-cables are not.

@Joe Shades
I use these DP++ to HDMI with sound adapters on many of my systems
Rankie DisplayPort to HDMI B010SDZZ80
They need a cable
HDMI Cable B014I8T0YQ
Works fine and includes audio if your display port++ has it.

@Joe Shades - Did you check your monitor's On-Screen Display (OSD) to make sure it's set to receive an HDMI signal?
Reboot and when you see the Dell logo, immediately start tapping F2 to open BIOS setup. Check the Primary Display and Multi-Display settings (see table 3 here).
Maybe you can return it and try the one @Robert Houston says works with his XPS 8950?

I don't know what do with this. I spent alot of money and I can not afford another monitor now. I start the PC the dell logo appears then when it goes to windows the screen goes black and the monitor then says no signal .

@Joe Shades Are you sure your XPS 8950 does not have a discrete graphics card because the behavior you described could be a result of having a discrete graphics card?
