XPS 8950, second NVMe SSD super slow
I just installed a second NVMe SSD and the speeds are super slow. The system came with a WD SN810 and speeds are normal >6000MB/s Read/>4000 MB/s. I added a 1TB WD SN730 pci-express gen 3 nvme to the second m.2 slot. In my other system this drive was getting ~3000 MB/s read/write and now it's in the 200 MB/s Read/ 150 MB/s write. I tried messing with BIOS settings. System was in RAID mode then i changed to AHCI/nvme and reinstalled Win 11 but speeds are still the same. I also made sure all SSD firmware was up-to-date and made sure all other system drivers/BIOS was updated. I tried reformatting and running trim on the drive. I also tried loading optimized BIOS defaults. Current system BIOS is 1.2.1. Any insight would be appreciated.

Solved: Looks like it might have been an installation error. I removed the NVME drive and reseated it in the slot and now speed seems to be what it should be. I'm surprised that it didn't error and was able to benched in the first place.

Have you tried resetting BIOS to the basic defaults by removing the motherboard battery?

Any update? I am also considering to add a 2nd NVME.... appreciate any updates....

I added a second SSD with no problem - it was a Crucial 2Tb one but from Amazon as it was considerably cheaper there - I used the Crucial PC scan to make sure it was the right one.

Thanks @tonylinde2 . Your Crucial 2Tb is P5 which is PCI-E3.0 right?

Thank you very much @tonylinde2 . This P5 Plus is indeed a nice one. I am considering either this one or WD SN770 (2T) if the 2nd slot does support PCIe4.0. The original DELL shipment is a WD SN810 at 1T.

The second slot does indeed support gen 4 NVMe on an 8950. I have a seagate firecuda 530 in the original slot and the WD810 in the second. They both work at the speeds that they should.
