XPS One 2720, Realtek ethernet, Killer WiFi, issues

Question

I'm looking for some advice regarding the XPS One 2720 - Realtek RTL8111G Ethernet Controller Driver and Qualcomm Atheros Killer Wireless-N 1202 network.

Since windows creator was automatically installed, I've lost the Ethernet Connection and the automatic wireless connection takes a few minutes to actually connect.

I've tried to install the drivers recommended on the Drivers and downloads page for the system - no real error message is given apart from "failed to install". The drivers recommended are from 2015.

The question is:

Are there more up to date drivers available and where can they be found, or should I simply replace the PC as I've had nothing but trouble with it - The mother board has been replaced twice, the last time was last December.

Hello! I would try this. Right click on the start menu and click on device manager. Click on the network card which is the realtek gigabit. Uninstall it and restart windows 10. See if Windows 10 will automagically install a generic driver for it. If it does, see if that works out for you. If it doesn't auto install, you can go back into the device manager and see if you can force it to check for driver updates via windows update. Another option is going to realtek.com.tw and seeing if they have any universal drivers for their gigabit lan chip. I know they have a couple for sound.

Your WiFi issue may be an issue with Win 10 itself. WiFi on my Dell Laptop running Win 10 Fall Creators also takes a long time to connect, if ever.

I have "Connect Automatically" checked for my WiFi network, but most of the time it never connects automatically. I have to open the list of available networks and manually click Connect for mine, and then it instantaneously connects.

This didn't happen before Creators so I guess Microsoft "improved" something with this version...

I've been done that route, before trying the community, and it constantly tries and fails to install the original drivers.

I've just been via the realtek website, hopefully, I've found the right driver

Same problem with older XS 2720.

Cannot see RealTek Ethernet adapter under Network devices. With the Ethernet port (chip) working I could hardwire and get up to gig speed.

Killer Wifi is working at an OK speed.

Help!

My experience is that Killer is Killing me and my gaming experience.

A clean install from an OEM system builder 1809 DVD and quite a few things later and I'm stable on my

brand spankin new Jan 22, 2019 manufacture date G7 Gaming Laptop.

Removing Dell Support Assist, Dell Bla bla bla, Killer my network drivers, Mcafee,

and then turning OFF ALL LIVE TILES on the start menu, AND Disabling IP6 Teredo and ISATAP via command Line, then Turning off Hibernation via command line powercfg -h off

and setting PCI-E sleep to NEVER and turn hard disks off after 999 minutes instead of 20 minutes.

I chose this specific model so that I could remove the SSD and put something in there better Later.

If you choose a model with no M2 SSD and or No Hard Drive the mounting and cables and caddy and screws are usually missing which is horrible.

That usually points to a hardware/MB problem because it should be detected (even if device is missing drivers or in error).

In BIOS, maybe you can try turning off/on again (if available)?

Reboot and immediately press F2 to open BIOS setup. The online service manual doesn't list the BIOS options, so look around to see if there are options for the onboard Network Interface Card (NIC) and make sure it's Enabled. Be sure to save the change, if any, but don't change anything else in BIOS setup.

If the NIC is already enabled in BIOS, you might want to try resetting BIOS to see if that can force it recognize the NIC properly.

Reboot and immediately press F2 to open BIOS setup
Copy down all current BIOS settings, to be safe
Power off, unplug
Press/hold power button for ~15 sec
Open case and remove motherboard battery (check Service Manual for details)
Press/hold power button for ~30 sec
Reinstall the battery (Time for a fresh CR2032 3-volt coin cell battery?)
Close up and connect mouse, monitor and keyboard
Reboot

Working inside an AIO isn't as simple as working inside a desktop PC. So read the service manual carefully before you do anything. And if this is beyond your capabilities, maybe you have a geeky friend or can take it to a reputable PC shop for diagnosis and a repair estimate.

Is NIC listed in Device Manager again and working?
